The first two websites highlighted in BOLD are my two favorite websites that I find very useful to describe plants:
The Great Plant Escape
The first website is a good website that may be very helpful for kids. It is different then most websites because it has a detective theme to it. It asks questions that may be used to make up a quiz later on the information that the kids are suppose to learn from it. The website is very easy to follow and goes from one page to the next. There is a lot of information that is chunked and then broken down into sections. There are lots of examples and diagrams given. I find the website attractive and interesting. I think this a very useful website that has some complex terms for the advance learners but it is also very simple and easy to understand and explain.
Plants and Our Environment
The second website is a very good website as well because it too has a lot of information but it is easily broken down into subunits. Each tab leads to the next topic and it all flows very nicely. I think the information goes from broad to specific and this is helpful for all learners. There are visual pictures and explanations are clearly understandable.
You can create all kinds of classroom activities from these websites. My favorite website is the first website on, The Great Plant Escape. As I had said previously there is a detective theme. This would be a great idea to create your classroom into a big detective scene. Students could create bulletin boards with different cases to investigate just like it is shown on the website. Students may like to decorate the room with different plants or processes that they learn from plants. The students will not only be able to learn about plants by the science content but you can use their words for vocab words in stories that they have to create in English. The same words maybe used for Spelling. The theme about plants and what the students are trying to discover from them doesn't have to stop in just one curriculum it can range from all different ones. Which is why these two websites are very helpful in breaking down large complex concepts into simple areas that describe plants and may be used for any grade level.
